On the Road to Avonlea

Anne of Green Gables was a big part of growing up for Cayly and Keenan.  We have watched the movie series many times.  So going to PEI had to include Anne (with an "e").

Keenan bought tickets to see the musical at the theatre in Charlottetown.  We got dressed up and made a night of it with dinner at a restaurant next to the theatre.  We got a lovely table just inside with the big window in front of us being wide open to the patio and entertainment outside.  We were glad when it started to pour outside!

We enjoyed the musical very much.  The actors and direction held true to our vision of Anne and Green Gables
The trip would not have been complete without a trip to the North Shore to see Green Gables itself.  Lucy Maude Montgomery's stories of "Anne of Green Gables" have been so important to PEI that they have made a National Park out of the original buildings and land that inspired Montgomery.  It was strange to be there and feel like Anne was more real than Lucy.  Montgomery's life had elements that you see in the character of Anne but overall, her life was much different.  Walking in the woods around the house, I could see, hear and feel what Anne talks about in the stories.

This is the home of Lucy's relatives which inspired Green Gables.  It is much bigger than it looks - 5 bedrooms!
