As I drove south from Gros Morne park back towards Port Aux Basques harbour I saw a lot of countryside. Here are a few photos of things I liked.
In Norris Point:

| Mike Holmes wouldn't like that railing! |
 |
| Putting on a Good Front or Making a Big Show |

A great way to advertise your sewer tank business! |
The French Ancestor's Route wound its way through a part of the island where most of the Acadians settled.
 |
| Newfoundland's rocky shores |
 |
| I saw 2 houses with this kind of cement ornamentation??? |

On the most western point of Nfld.

Too late in the season to see a
bread oven working :-( |
Ship-lap siding and bright colours are traditional for houses. In an effort to spruce up the place and appear traditional, it seems that the government must have offered a deal on vinyl siding. Sadly (for me) apx 90% of the houses were vinyl. When the fisheries were closed down the island turned to tourism for making a living. I suppose run down houses would be depressing for the tourists. Almost every house was neat and tidy and had pretty new siding. It certainly made the views more picturesque.
